Cheilosia nigripes (Meigen, 1822)

Biology

This is a woodland species that occurs on Chalk and limestone. The larval host plant is unknown and there are no obvious pointers to viable possibilities. Males are often noted sunning themselves on sun-lit leaves.

Distribution

This is a southern English species that is most commonly encountered in Surrey, Sussex, Kent, Dorset, Somerset and Gloucestershire.

Status

Lower Risk (Nationally scarce) - Ball & Morris, 2010. Rare (RDB3) - Falk, 1991 and Shirt, 1987.
